(SOCIAL MEDIA REPOST)
Does anybody else find it a little frustrating that it’s fashionable to be seen as a geek now?
I mean, some of us grew up as a geeks and, at the time, it wasn’t something that was seen as a positive. It felt like we had to hide our Pokemon cards or keep our love for Batman comics to ourselves. Now, it’s mainstream. It’s “in.”
Now, we’re expected to conform to the general perceptions as geeks and, while the positive connotations can be appreciated, it almost feels like we’re still confined by the views of others looking in.
Those who grew up geek are called upon for advanced knowledge, and it’s nice to have that come into play in the real world, but it feels like people expect you to get extreme with your fandom or not even bother.
I dunno, am I alone in that?
